Somos los Soldados, 11/17/16

Mamá y familia-

It´s really hard to know what to say in my letter this week with the news of the passing of Grandpa Simmons. I can only hope that my work here in Argentina will help me to be more like the kind of man that Grandpa Simmons was/is. I can´t think of a better example of Jesus Christ in my life than Grandpa Simmons.

I hope that my work here this past week will help fill the world with more people like Grandpa. I was blessed to participate in the baptism of Marcelo this weekend. He is a great man, and I hope he can lead his young family with love and devotion in the gospel of Jesus Christ. I love seeing that our efforts here are really helping people to come to Christ. For some, it´s the first time that they have seriously made an effort to follow Jesus Christ. For others, they are recommitting themselves to follow their Lord and Savior.

We had some amazing trainings with our Zone, and mission President this past week that helped us to have such a great week. Presidente Robertson spoke to us about focusing ourselves on inviting people to be baptized, and the examples of how Christ invited people to come unto him and be baptized.

Aditionally, Presidente Robertson spoke about how we cannot judge what the future is for a person who chooses to come unto Christ by being baptized. To illustrate his point, he related a story from his mission. In one particular week a boy of 16 years of age came up to him and his companion and asked, "What do I need to do to be baptized in your church?" They proceeded to teach him and within two days he was baptized. Presidente had a lot of anxiety with regards to the baptism because it was so fast, but today this convert is one of the strongest that he had in all of his mission. Recently, he had the privelege to meet the son of this convert in the MTC of Argentina.

The truth is that I often think that I can judge other people. In the mission perhaps at times I think that I can judge myself, my companion, other missionaries, investigators, the members, or the people around me as a whole. In reality, God has given us our agency, and has allowed us to be molded by him as we choose to accept the redeeming sacrifice of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

With this in mind, I want to invite everyone at home to commit yourself to your role as a soldier here on earth for our Savior Jesus Christ! As you do so, you will be shaped into a tool for good in the lives of all those around you! Grandpa Simmons was shaped into a powerful force for good as he chose to follow Jesus Christ day by day. He was imperfect like all men, but he was a disciple of Jesus Christ. We are all enlisted till the conflict is over, happy are we, happy are we! Somos los soldados que combaten error, ¡que dicha es! ¡que dicha es!

I love you all!

-Elder Lambert
