Dropping Bompas de Papas, 8/29/16

Hola familia!

Glad to hear that you made it out alive from the first week of school! Sounds like a cool project too! I love how smart and cool my Mom is! Keep working hard- I love you!

As for Dad´s song, I´m not sure that I heard the final cut, but I heard some of it and it sounded pretty interesting haha. Sounds like a really fun project. Dad seems to make friends with more and more talented people that help him improve and learn all the time! I hope it blows up on YouTube! Jaja.

Thanks for the family news as well. I certainly will remember to pray for the family every day! I didn´t know that Adria had her baby! Exciting! Congrats to Adria and Kaleb!

To answer your question about pres- he´s pretty serious jaja. He´s a very good guy though. I have really enjoyed all of my opportunities to speak with him. He has a nice southern drawl that is really funny to hear when he´s speaking castellano. He certainly knows his stuff though.

As for the past week, things have been fun! The work has continued! Unfortunately, Violeta was staying with her father this past week, and we were not able to have a baptism for her. Her dad has been opposed to her praying in his house and reading in the scriptures so we have been praying for her a lot! It stunk because we couldn´t work with her at all. We sent the other missionaries in our district who live in the area of her dad by but Violeta and her father have been sick so they haven´t been able to visit.

Violeta´s family is amazing though! Her mom and step-dad are awesome! They have only been members for about two months now, but her step-dad was able to receive the Melchezidek priesthood this past week and gave a talk in sacrament. He had a couple of pages written out and decided not to look at them at all! He told his conversion story and bore his testimony! It was absolutely incredible! He is such a good guy and I can see that his family is making so many positive changes in their lives. We´re hoping some of the other children will come along for the ride as well!

As for Micaela, our lessons with her this week were great! She is very dilligent with praying and reading daily. After reviewing some lessons though, she hinted that she may have some personal problems that could be an impediment to her baptism so we decided to reschedule the baptism until we can talk with her about it more. Unfortunately, she was sick this weekend so we weren´t able to see her at church yesterday.

Finally, we have Cintia! She is a boss, and we had an incredible experience with her Monday night. She was facing a tough time when we stopped by her house and was crying. I went to tell her a portion of the story of Alma the Younger when something really strange happened. Cintia tried to speak, but she couldn´t speak discernibly. She would stutter, and get an occasional word out in between who knows what language. We went inside to give her a blessing and she was able to explain that for some time whenever she has tried to ask something of God in prayer, this would occur where she couldn´t speak. She said it stopped when Elders stopped by the last time, but was back again now. We gave her a blessing, and she has had an awesome change. She has been much more happy and peaceful in our past couple visits.

To finish the Cintia saga for this week though, she got up and messaged us to tell us she would make it to church yesterday! We went to the meetings and she sent a mission saying she would arrive late; around 10:30 AM. We waited for her, and called for her but nobody answered. We tried to stop by last night but she wasn´t home. We are praying that everything is alright! She is a great person and accepted a commitment to be baptized in our last lesson! She truly has a testimony! I hope we can continue to invite her to come to her Savior Jesus Christ!

In other news, I experienced the first "sick day" on the mission. Part way through the day Saturday my comp said he wanted to stop by the church. We went in and he proceed to throw up for a while jaja. I don´t know what hit him but it´s clear his body wasn´t taking it well. We got permission from Hna. Robertson and went back to our pension. I called up our investigators and recent converts we were going to visit, and did my best to take care of his district leader calls as well. I also got in some good cleaning, and a tiny bit of study which was nice.

To finish, in reference to the subject line of the email I got to try Bombas de Papas yesterday! It was goood. It´s basically just mashed potatoes that they then seal somehow (somekind of emulsifier with a breading around it) and then deep fry it! Probably not super healthy but it was pretty tasty.

I know that my redeemer lives! I´m excited to continue to give service to him and praise his name! I am imperfect but really feel God is helping me progress one day at a time! I decided the last week to start living in Castellano and do all of my studies exclusively in castellano. I have been reading, writing, and speaking in castellano every day and it has really been helping me. God is really blessing me one day at a time! I really hope I can come closer to the people here and better learn how to invite them to Jesus Christ! Thanks for all of your love and support!

Best,
Elder Lambert
